The mother of actor Til Schweiger died a few months ago. In an interview, the 57-year-old now spoke about his grief and further losses in his life.
At the beginning of the year Til Schweiger lost his mother Monika. The retired teacher suffered from dementia and died at the age of 81. “For my mother it was certainly better that way. For my father it is of course bad that she is no longer there,” said Schweiger in an interview with the. He himself did not overcome his mother’s death. “You can never deal with that,” said the 57-year-old.
Schweiger is now confronted with grief and loss in his new film “Kurt”, which is based on the novel of the same name by Sarah Kuttner. It is about a blended family that loses a child. Schweiger is the director and leading actor of the film and wrote the script with Vanessa Walder. Kuttner himself was already enthusiastic last year. For a photo of the script, she wrote: “Fan yourself excitedly and suppress 2-12 tears while reading.”
Friend of Schweiger’s daughter Luna died in a car accident
Schweiger reveals in the interview with “Bild” that he has already lost other loved ones in addition to his mother, such as Marvin Balletshofer, the ex-boyfriend of his daughter Luna. The entrepreneur was killed in a car accident last year. He was only 23 years old. He dedicated his new film to Ballettshofer’s parents.
In addition, the death of Ursula Karven’s son Daniel hit him deeply. The actress’ son drowned in the pool of US musician Tommy Lee in 2001. The then four-year-old Daniel Karven was invited to a birthday party by Lee’s son. “I still remember the call today. And it was 20 years ago,” said Schweiger of the moment when his then wife Dana informed him about the tragic accident. Their daughter Luna was close friends with the boy. “Luna still mourns the death of Daniel. And she was only four then,” said Schweiger.
Coping with the loss of a child is what Schweiger’s film “Kurt” is about, which he describes as the “most intense film” he has ever made. “I’ve shed so many tears in the editing room, even though I know the film inside out. I actually cry every day.”
