Pope Francis is due to undergo surgery this Wednesday. The reason is an increasingly painful abdominal wall fracture.
Great concern for the head of the Catholic Church: Pope Francis (86) has to undergo an operation. For this purpose he was admitted to a hospital on Wednesday (June 7th). For the operation, a so-called laparotomy, it is necessary to open the abdominal cavity of the 86-year-old and therefore put him under general anesthesia. He will also have to spend several days in the clinic, it is said.
Accordingly, “the operation decided over the past few days by the Holy Father’s medical team” is necessary because of a hernia that causes Francis “recurring, painful and worsening” problems. A hernia is a break in the abdominal wall.
The operation will be carried out in the Gemelli Clinic in the heart of Rome, and the date given for the operation is “early afternoon” on Wednesday (June 7th).
