“Sometimes it’s up to Schnoizer and there’s a song – in this case it was the same,” says Blonde Engel aka Felix Schobesberger in an interview with OÖN. The singer-songwriter from Linz describes the genesis of the number “Verwexcelung”, which has been clicked up to become an Internet hit for two days and caricatures the SPÖ’s mess in its election of Andreas Babler, the now apparently fixed chairman.
“Aun da party leader a change – Happens often called amoi in Excel – Des is fian Dosko grennt deppert – On the other hand fian Babler excelent”, sings the blond angel in the refrain. “I had the rhyme Wechsl – Excel in my head right away, so the refrain was a story of ana minutes.”
Schobesberger is far from pouring malice on people or groups, “I didn’t do that with my number ‘Da Vizi auf Ibizi’, I see these songs more as a satirical chronicle”. He was also asked for a number during the political devastation of the chat affair and the resignation of Chancellor Sebastian Kurz (ÖVP), “but I only manage a song if the facts contain a bizarre moment. And the chats were bare Madness, without any bizarreness.”
New album in autumn
No, Schobesberger doesn’t see himself as a political singer-songwriter, “others can do it much better, but sometimes that’s what I get”. On October 27th he will present his new album in Linz’s Posthof: “It will be called ‘Songs that are funny and sometimes a bit sad, but that’s okay’. This is my musical overview of the past few years, which also includes the were shaped by the pandemic.”
During this time, Schobesberger found that he also wanted to give his more serious, melancholic numbers space and a stage. “But not in such a way that everything is horrible – don’t worry. There will also be a lot of funny things to hear. But I also wanted to express this side of my personality for once. The record was and is a healing process for me.”
The Blonde Engel is currently touring in Vienna, Graz and Salzburg. His next show in Upper Austria can be seen on September 29th in the Ennsdorf greenhouse. Until then, you can amuse yourself with his “confusion”: “Da Doskozil says stü baba – because now Andi Babler is there – where grod nu d’Rendi-Wagner was.”
