The doctors triggered a wave of criticism after a concert in Luxembourg. During the performance, they made several provocative statements about the allegations of abuse against Rammstein. Queer hostile sayings also caused irritation among the fans.
They’re known for their gritty humor and provocative quips, but this time they may have taken it too far. The punk rock band Die Ärzte amazed the fans at a concert in Luxembourg when they repeatedly smugly commented on the current allegations of abuse against Rammstein frontman Till Lindemann during their performance.
The discussions were triggered by a video of the performance, which was published on Twitter for the first time on Thursday evening. In the YouTube video you can see the musicians performing in Luxembourg. They allude to the allegations against Lindemann.
“If you say no, that’s not an option, drink from this glass”
The trio even rewrote passages of an entire song for it. During the song “Rock Rendezvous” they sing about the “backstage room” in which Rammstein’s sexual assault is said to have taken place. The new line: “I want to fuck you. Right in this backstage room”. They also wrote: “If you say no, that’s not an option, drink from this glass”, clearly addressing the current allegations against Rammstein.
Because the Rammstein allegations are about statements by a young woman from Ireland, who reported on social media about a “casting system” at the Rammstein concerts. At one of these, she was selected for sex with Lindemann backstage without anyone telling her beforehand that it was about that. The woman also shared pictures of bruises on her body that she suddenly discovered after the concert – without knowing where they came from. In addition, she had no memory of the evening.
The doctors are criticized for their Rammstein statements on social media
Apparently, the doctors also refer to this. After the song, they comment smugly, “I have worse than bruises” and “that’s because my knockout drops are homeopathic.”
The band is now heavily criticized for their behavior on social media. A user writes: “They should show solidarity with the victims and not make jokes about it. Hey, what’s going on with some men.” Another commented: “How the doctors react to the allegations against Rammstein makes me speechless. I wouldn’t have believed them capable of that.” Fans of the band are also disappointed. Another user writes: “I had put it on that they are in solidarity (…) It’s very, very sad.”
The video has now been deleted, but there are more recordings of the performance on the Internet that record the band’s behavior. “I’ve now looked a bit through the recorded videos and I really have to say that as a fan I’ve been stunned since I was a teenager at how the band behaved and what ‘jokes’ and lyrics came. Disgusting,” writes one user in addition.
Doctors humor or just disrespectful?
Other fans defend the band against the critics and say that the jokes “if you understand the Die Ärzte humor” are clearly aimed at Rammstein and not at the victims. With the lines about the KO drops and bruises, however, this is rather questionable.
In addition to the comments about Rammstein, the band is also criticized for their inappropriate statements about Pride Month. Guitarist Farin Urlaub says during a break, with reference to the supposedly complicated terms used by the LGBTQIA+ community, that he subscribed to “such a explainer email” to understand it. He also mocks the term “cisgender”. Holiday says, alluding to the sharp-raised C in the scale, that he “didn’t know anything about C sharp.”
