“The final problem”, the new novel by the renowned writer and academic Arturo Pérez-Reverte, will be published in September in Spain and will be a tribute to the legendary detective Sherlock Holmes, considered one of the most important detectives of all time.

The Spanish author, who also pays tribute to the creator of the character, Arthur Conan Doyle, and to the actor Basil Rathbone for playing the detective on screen, will return to the suspense genre that has given him great success throughout his career, like “La tabla de Flandes” and “El club Dumas”, the latter celebrates its 30th year this year. anniversary and sold more than 2.5 million copies worldwide.

In the novel to be released in September, the author expresses his admiration for Sherlock Holmes and considers him one of the greatest, most fascinating and original characters in universal literature.

The plot of “The Final Problem” takes place in a small hotel on the idyllic island of Utakos, off Corfu. There, the lifeless body of Edith Mander, a discreet English tourist, is discovered, and what appears to be a suicide reveals subtle but perceptible clues to Hopalong Basil, a decadent actor who once played the famous screen detective. With his experience applying Holmes’s deductive skills to the movies, Basil becomes the only one capable of unraveling the riddle of a locked room.

Arturo Pérez-Reverte has achieved great success with his previous books, such as “Sidi”, “Línea de fuego” and “El italiano”, all with sales of more than 300,000 copies. On the other hand, his latest novel, “Revolution”, was one of the outstanding books of the year 2022, with more than 200,000 copies sold.
