Princess Elisabeth von Bismarck, who died in early June, was buried in Friedrichsruh east of Hamburg on Saturday. About 100 people attended the funeral service in the cemetery of the family’s private estate, including singer Vicky Leandros (70) and Dutch Prince Constantijn (53), Queen Beatrix’s youngest son, with his wife Princess Laurentien (57).

Princess Elisabeth von Bismarck died last Sunday at the age of 84, as the family confirmed. Born Countess Elisabeth Lippens came from Belgium and had been married to Prince Ferdinand von Bismarck (1930-2019) since 1960. He was the great-grandson of the Iron Chancellor, Prince Otto von Bismarck (1815-1898). The marriage produced four children: Carl-Eduard, Gottfried, Gregor and Vanessa.

Her great passion was the “Butterfly Garden” on the historic Bismarck estate in Friedrichsruh. For decades, Elisabeth von Bismarck had taken care of the tropical house and the 800 butterflies from 40 different species.
