The Brazilian musician, singer and composer Caetano Veloso was distinguished by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Trade and Worship of the Nation with the Mercedes Sosa Award, a new award that highlights artists who through their work have contributed to the promotion and dissemination of culture in the international arena and the strengthening, encouragement and promotion of bilateral cultural ties with the Argentine Republic.
The distinction, which was delivered to the Bahian artist within the framework of his presentation yesterday at the Movistar Arena in Buenos Aires, was delivered by the director of Cultural Affairs of the Argentine Foreign Ministry, Paula Vázquez -on behalf of Foreign Minister Santiago Cafiero-, together with Araceli and Agustín Matus, grandchildren of Mercedes Sosa.
Regarding the award ceremony, of which Caetano is the first recipient, Paula Vázquez highlighted: “This award recognizes the work and life of Caetano Veloso, an undisputed reference in Latin American culture, who through his music and his friendship with The Argentine people have contributed decisively to the cultural exchange of our countries”.
“It is also -he added-, a great joy that he is the one who inaugurates this award, both for the close bond that united him with Mercedes Sosa and for the 200 years of bilateral relations that we celebrate this 2023 with Brazil, one of our sister countries ”.
Veloso, 80, will continue his current “Meu Coco” tour tomorrow at the El Círculo theater in Rosario, before continuing on his way to Montevideo, Uruguay, different parts of Brazil and then facing the European leg through Spain, Portugal, the Netherlands , Monte Carlo, France, Belgium, Italy, Switzerland, Norway and Germany.
