TikTok trend skin cycling: This is what the viral beauty routine can do

Healthy Glow with Skin Cycling: Why is the TikTok trend developed by a dermatologist so healthy for our facial skin?

Impurities and dry spots are a thing of the past. The TikTok trend Skin Cycling promises even skin with minimal effort. The viral beauty hype was developed by the New York dermatologist Dr. Whitney Bowe. We explain why skin cycling is so beneficial for our skin and how the beauty routine works.

This dermatologist is behind the TikTok trend Skin Cycling

dr Whitney Bowe has been using the skin cycling method successfully for several years and provides a wealth of information on the beauty treatment for anyone interested in beauty. Skin Cycling is based on a strategic nightly skincare routine.

The skin should be able to relax at night: According to Bowe, the night is best suited for skin care and to support the natural skin barrier to recover from everyday life. Bowe takes a “less is more” approach with her skin-cycling method, as she puts it. For them it is important to use cosmetics and care products strategically in such a way that they complement each other.

This is how the four-night cycle works

dr Whitney Bowe developed a four-night cycle for her skin-cycling method and tips for beginner skin-cyclers. With these step-by-step instructions, the four-day beauty plan can be easily imitated at home.

First night: scrub

Step one of skin cycling consists of an exfoliation. This helps to remove dead skin cells and prepares the skin for the upcoming care steps. dr Whitney Bowe strongly recommends chemical peels at this point – in her opinion, products with alpha (AHA), beta (BHA) or polyhydroxy acids (PHA) achieve the best results. The dermatologist also emphasizes that it is important not to peel the sensitive facial skin too often in order not to damage the skin barrier.

Second night: retinol

Retinol serum is the key ingredient on day two of the skin cycling routine. The fat-soluble vitamin helps the skin to renew itself and ensures smooth, firm and soft skin. However, the active ingredient is not compatible with acidic peelings, which is not a problem thanks to the structure of the skin cycling method. To help skin adjust to retinol, Dr. Bowe recommends applying extra moisturizer before and after the retinol serum.

Third and fourth night: regeneration

Nights three and four are dedicated to skin regeneration during Skin Cycling. At this point, the dermatologist advises staying away from peels and retinol and instead focusing on caring for the skin microbiome and skin barrier. In the recovery nights, it is particularly important to provide the skin with a lot of moisture. Products with hyaluronic acid, niacinamides, ceramides and glycerin are therefore well suited for this step. For example, the evening care routine on days three and four could look like this: cleansing, tonic, serum, moisturizing cream, facial oil.

A new cycle can then be started on the fifth night. according to dr Whitney Bowe, after two skin cycling sessions, blemishes and dry patches on the face should have improved significantly. Applied over several weeks, the beauty method has a significantly rejuvenating and invigorating effect on the face.
