Work: Ifo estimate: Less home office in June

Everyday life and normality are slowly returning. This also applies to the world of work.

An increasing number of employees in Germany are working in the office again and no longer in their own home.

In June, the proportion of employees who work at least temporarily in the home office fell from 31 to 28.4 percent. That is what the Munich-based Ifo Institute estimates in a report published on Monday.

In the service sector, the proportion of home workers is still very high, but has fallen from 41.5 to 38.5 percent. In the IT industry, the home office rate is highest at 76 percent, and returning to the office desk is still the exception. There was more work on site and less home office in wholesale and retail, in construction and in industry.

In June employers were still obliged to let their employees work at home if they wanted to. This obligation no longer applies in July.
