The 63-year-old is due to appear in court in London at the end of June on charges of sexual assault. He is convinced that he will be acquitted. And then?
US actor Kevin Spacey (63) is confident that he will be able to make a comeback after his trial for alleged sexual assault in London. “We live in a time when many people fear that they will be canceled if they support me,” said Spacey (“House of Cards”) in the current issue of “Zeitmagazin”. “But as soon as I’m acquitted in London, certain people will offer me roles again. In the same minute!”
Spacey’s London criminal trial is scheduled to begin on June 28. He is accused of sexually assaulting several men on twelve counts. The crimes are believed to have happened between 2001 and 2013. Spacey denies the allegations.
“The moment these things are examined closely, they collapse,” said Spacey with conviction. “That’s how it was at the Anthony Rapp trial, and that’s how it will be at this trial!” In October 2022, a US jury unanimously acquitted Spacey of sexually assaulting actor Anthony Rapp with physical harm.
Rapp’s allegations, which were made public for the first time in the course of the MeToo debate in 2017, had led to further allegations and shaken Spacey’s career. The two-time Oscar winner had previously become one of the most prominent Hollywood stars with films such as “The Usual Suspects” and “American Beauty”.
Spacey also speaks in Zeitmagazin about his homosexuality, which he has suppressed for a long time. “I tried things, but I didn’t want to admit who I was. I was terrified to find out.”
