The Norwegian King Harald V. and his wife Sonja are guests in Denmark. They traveled on their ship Norge. First stop: Copenhagen. How to proceed afterwards.
Visit among Scandinavian friends: Norway’s royal couple Harald V. and Sonja have arrived in Denmark for a two-day state visit. The 86-year-old head of state and his 85-year-old wife arrived in Copenhagen on Thursday with the royal ship “Norge”, where they welcomed Denmark’s Queen Margrethe II (83) on the quay. Harald, who was walking on crutches, stumbled on the steps just before Margrethe before he was quickly helped up again. The monarch was on his feet again a few seconds later and apparently caught the little mishap with a joke. He and Margrethe laughed heartily as they hugged.
Harald and Sonja are accompanied in Denmark by several ministers from their country. After the start of the visit in Copenhagen, there are further appointments in Aarhus, Denmark’s second largest city, on Friday. The trip is intended to underscore the close relationship between the two Scandinavian countries and their royal families. Economic issues such as the green development of industry and strengthening energy cooperation are also on the agenda.
Since the death of British Queen Elizabeth II last September, Margrethe has been considered the longest reigning monarch on earth. She has been Danish head of state for over 51 years. Harald has been King of Norway for more than 32 years.
