Cyclist Gino Mäder: 26-year-old succumbs to his injuries

The Swiss professional cyclist Gino Mäder is dead. He succumbed to his injuries the day after his fall at the Tour de Suisse.

Flown to the hospital after resuscitation

, Gino Mäder got off the road on Thursday in the last descent of the 5th stage on the Albula and fell into a creek bed. Tour de Suisse doctor Dr. Roland Kretsch told the Swiss daily that he had found Mäder at the scene of the accident without a pulse. A 25-minute resuscitation was successful. “He came back to life, the cardiac arrest was resolved,” the doctor is quoted as saying. Mäder was then flown to the cantonal hospital in Chur with the Swiss air rescue service Rega and was treated there in the traumatology ward.

“Despite all the efforts of the excellent staff at the Chur hospital, Gino did not manage to overcome this final and greatest challenge and at 11:30 a.m. we said goodbye to one of the brightest heads of our team”, .
