As the sheriff’s office in the San Bernardino district announced on Monday (local time), more than 80 helpers were deployed in the region over the weekend. The search party was supported by helicopters and drones. Unfortunately, no clues were found as to Sands’ whereabouts. This was the eighth search operation since the missing persons report was received. Sands left on January 13 for a trip to the Mount Baldy area northeast of Los Angeles and has not returned. The actor, a keen mountain hiker according to media reports, lived near Hollywood.
Mount Baldy is part of the San Gabriel mountain range and is almost 3,070 meters high. The sheriff’s office issued a warning in January against hiking the mountain due to dangerous weather conditions with ice and snow. Parts of the mountain are still covered by snow, the authority said.
In his decades-long career, Sands has acted in numerous films and series, in addition to “A Room With a View”, such as “Naked Lunch”, “The Killing Fields”, “Leaving Las Vegas”, “Arachnophobia”, “Smallville “, “24” and most recently “What/If”.
