Simon Verhoeven: Wedding in a small circle

In the closest family circle, director Simon Verhoeven married his partner. The civil marriage took place in Vienna.

Director Simon Verhoeven (51) got married in Vienna at the beginning of June. He has been with Nina-Anais Nun (42) for more than 20 years, and the couple has two sons. She has now adopted his last name.

“I actually never intended to”

As the son of actress Senta Berger (50) told the magazine in an interview, it was a wedding in the closest circle. “Only our parents were there, my brother Luca with his wife and children and Nina’s cousin with her family.” Originally, marriage was not one of Verhoeven’s goals in life: “I actually never had that in mind. But when I turned 50 in the summer, I thought about a lot and felt a lot of gratitude.” During three months of shooting in South Africa, he also missed his family more than ever before. “That’s when I knew it was just time.” He proposed with an engagement ring under the Christmas tree.

“I don’t think my mother expected me to marry again,” said Verhoeven. Senta Berger has been married to film producer Michael Verhoeven (84) for 57 years. The two celebrated their wedding just three years after they met. Her eldest son took much more time. That’s why his parents were “actually surprised” that he was still tying the knot.

Vienna is her favorite city

The civil marriage took place in Vienna in the first week of June. The couple made a conscious decision to go to the Austrian capital. They found “just about everything exciting and romantic there,” said Verhoeven. He has many connections to the couple’s favorite city: his mother was born in Vienna, he grew up there and now owns an apartment in Vienna. He often spends his holidays there with his wife and their two sons, David and Jonah.
