The former WWE professional wrestler made the decision just days after the fatal shooting on the set of “Rust,” where cinematographer Halyna Hutchins died.
“We’re going to switch to rubber pistols and address that in post-production.”announced the 49-year-old Californian actor.
“We are not going to worry about the dollars. We will not worry about what it costs,” he said. “They broke my heart. We lost a life. My heart goes out to his family and everyone who was on set.”
As for Ale Baldwin, who accidentally shot cinematographer Halyna Hutchins to death on Thursday, October 21, while filming in New Mexico, Johnson simply said that she has known him “for a long time.”
Johnson’s comments come amid growing calls from various actors and producers to ban firearms from Hollywood sets.
Meanwhile, the investigation continues to determine how the firearm fired by actor and producer Alec Baldwin on the set of “Rust” was loaded with a live bullet.
An assistant director of the film yelled “cold pistol,” indicating that the weapon had no actual rounds, before handing it over to Baldwin, according to an affidavit in the case. Baldwin, since the accident, has been in constant telephone contact with detectives, voluntarily answering their questions, authorities said.
Yesterday the lawyer for the person in charge of handling firearms in “Rust” suggested the possibility of sabotage, although he did not present any evidence for his complaint.
“How did a loaded round get on set and who put that round live on set?” Asked gunsmith Hannah Gutierrez-Reed’s attorney Jason Bowles on NBC’s “TODAY.”
Bowles denounced that someone may have been trying to sabotage the set, placing live ammunition in a dummy ammunition box.
The 24-year-old gunsmith in charge of the film “Rust” had been repeatedly accused by members of the production of violating basic security protocols.
