All of Brazil mourns the loss of one of its greatest stars: the Latin Grammy award-winning singer Marília Mendonça died in a plane crash. She was only 26 years old.
“The whole country is shocked by the death of one of the greatest artists of her generation,” wrote Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro on Twitter on Friday evening (local time).
He expressed his grief over the death of singer Marília Mendonça. “The feeling is that we have lost someone who was very close to us, because Marília was always present in our lives through her songs.”

The 26-year-old singer, who has almost 40 million subscribers on Instagram, died in a small plane crash near Caratinga. So far, nothing is known about the cause of the crash. The musician published a video of herself on the way to the machine on the photo platform. She pulls her suitcase behind her, smiles. “Concert weekend in Minas Gerais,” she wrote.

Football superstar Neymar was considered a friend of Mendonça. The PSG player expressed his grief by writing: “I refuse to believe it.” On her Twitter and Instagram profile, her management confirmed the tragic news and also mentioned the other occupants of the plane.
“It is with great sadness that we confirm the deaths of the singer Marília, her producer Henrique Ribeiro, her uncle and advisor Abicieli Silver Dias Filho, the pilot and co-pilot of the plane, whom we will not name at this point,” it says Statement.
“The plane took off from Goiânia to Caratinga / MG, where Marília was supposed to perform tonight. That is all the information we have at the moment.” Marília Mendonça was one of the best-known and most popular singers in Brazil and even won the Latin Grammy in 2019. She revolutionized the country style “Sertanejo” and sang on feminist topics. Mendonça leaves behind a two-year-old son.
