The former Belgian King Albert II was actually supposed to be released: “He’s staying for a few more days,” the palace now announces.
Former King Albert II of Belgium remains in hospital after showing signs of dehydration over the past week. “He’s staying for a few more days as he needs some rest and time to recover,” said a spokeswoman for the palace in Brussels.
Actually, the 89-year-old should have been released after the weekend. The ex-king was admitted to the hospital as a precaution last Tuesday, but was reportedly responsive.
Albert sat on the Belgian throne for 20 years but resigned in 2013 for health reasons. Since then, his eldest son Philippe has been at the head of the state.
