It’s been two months since the whole of Britain celebrated the coronation of King Charles III. and Queen Camilla. Now the new monarch is receiving another honor – in Scotland. What you need to know about the royal program.
On May 6, not only the Royal Family celebrated the coronation of the head of the family, King Charles III, but the whole of Great Britain. The Monday after the coronation became a public holiday, events and parties took place across the country. Now Charles can celebrate again.
King Charles III celebrates second coronation
On July 5th, almost two months after the official coronation, the new monarch in Scotland will celebrate another coronation. The annual Holyrood Week includes royal processions and a service of thanksgiving at Edinburgh’s St Giles Cathedral.
The late Queen Elizabeth II was also honored in this way. 70 years ago, on June 24, 1953, the Queen traveled to Edinburgh with her husband, Prince Philip. Barely a month after her coronation at Westminster Abbey in London, Elizabeth and Philip rode a carriage down the Royal Mile to St Giles Cathedral.
Prince William and Princess Kate also in Edinburgh
It’s going to be the same for Charles and Camilla now. After a procession in the Scottish capital, the royals will attend a service at St Giles Church. There the Scottish crown jewels, the so-called royal insignia, are presented to the monarch. The Crown Jewels of Scotland are the oldest in the United Kingdom. Also called the Honors of Scotland, they include a crown, scepter and a sword.
In addition to Charles and Camilla, William and Kate, the Prince and Princess of Wales, will also be there. As with Queen Elizabeth’s visit to Scotland, Charles’ second coronation will also be broadcast live on (British) television. The celebrations won’t end that quickly – Royal fans should be happy.
