Tabaré, the humorist and creator of “Diogenes and the linyera” died

Tabaré Gómez Laborde passed away at the age of 74. He also devoted himself to illustrating children’s books.

Tabare Gomez Labordebetter known as “tabaré”born in 1948 in Uruguay. He began to publish his humor strips in newspapers and magazines in his native country until in 1947 settled in Argentinawhere he developed a powerful work in publications such as Noticias, Satiricón, Humor and Clarín newspaper.

In 1977 he began with the publication of his most famous strip “Diogenes and the Linyera”with script of Carlos Abrevaya, Jorge Guinzburg and Hector Garcia Blanco. Uninterruptedly, the comic about the adventures of a linyera and his dog (Diogenes) appeared on the back cover of that newspaper and surpassed the more than 9,000 strips. After the death of Guinzburgin 2008, Tabaré took charge of the scripts.

Other of his well-known comics are “Inner life”, “Eustachian”, “Cacique Paja brava”, “Villadiego”, “Uncountable stories”or the publication “bicherio” about a funny and daily community of small wildlife, such as bees, ants, flies and mosquitoes.

He was also dedicated to children’s book illustration at Alfaguara, Sudamericana and Colihue publishing houses, where he illustrated titles such as “Dreams of the Toad”with text of Javier Villafaneeither “The Sea Biscuit” of Emma Wolf. He also worked in the children’s magazines Humi, Billiken, Disney and Geniuses, and made more than 50 humorous cinematographic shorts known as “Tabaré moves”.
