There are also protests: King Charles is celebrated as regent at a service in Edinburgh, Scotland. Prince William and Kate are also there.
Two months after his magnificent coronation in London, the British King Charles III. honored at a service in Scotland. The 74-year-old was symbolically presented with the Scottish crown jewels in Edinburgh on Wednesday. His wife Queen Camilla accompanied him. Heir to the throne Prince William and his wife Princess Kate, who bear the titles Duke and Duchess of Rothesay in Scotland, also attended the celebrations.
Charles was officially crowned in London on May 6th. In the Scottish capital he now drove, accompanied by soldiers and bagpipe players, from his official residence, the Palace of Holyroodhouse, to St. Giles Cathedral.
A number of people, including demonstrators, were waiting along the route. A BBC TV broadcast could be heard shouting “Not my King”. “Everyone in the UK should have the right to choose their head of state – and not be told it’s going to be Charles,” said Graham Smith of the Republic, which works to abolish the monarchy, according to the British news agency PA.
Charles has been the British monarch since the death of his mother Queen Elizabeth II last September. The ceremony in the Scottish capital is a central part of “Royal Week”, during which Charles and Camilla have numerous appointments in the part of the country.
