Mrs. Tompkins, a woman with autism and a long history of anxietymaintained that she would be unable “to leave the house for months, even to go shopping or to the doctor” without her dog.

A midwife suggested that Bella be allowed into the room. after seeing how beneficial she was the dog for her owner during her pregnancy.
Ms. Tompkins also recounted, in an interview with the BBC Three Counties Radio, that Belle “had to pass a risk assessment before she was granted access to the delivery room.” That evaluation verified that Belle could cope with the busy room and react “without being upset” to the pain of its owner. “It just went through it all, they were in awe of her”Tompkins said.
