James Gunn will kick off his DC universe in July 2025 with a new Superman played by David Corenswet.
With the arrival of James Gunn A new cinematographic universe is coming to DC. The first bet of the DCU will be the arrival of Superman: Legacy to the cinema, written and directed by Gunn himself.
In this new take on the iconic Kryptonian hero, David Corenswet will take the place of henry cavill as protagonist, with Rachel Brosnahan like his Lois Lane. Now, the filmmaker has confirmed new signings in an interview for Vanity Fair.
Isabella Merced (Dora and the Lost City, Transformers: The Last Knight) joins the cast as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi (StartUp) plays Mister Terrific and Nathan Fillion (Castle, Slither: The Plague), Gunn’s friend and regular collaborator, plays Green Lantern, thus returning to DC after The Suicide Squad. His Green Lantern will be Guy Gardner’s, much less heroic and more hateful than Hal Jordan.

What will Superman: Legacy be about?
Superman: Legacy addresses the life of a younger Clark Kent, still grappling with his alien origins and his upbringing in Smallville. It has been defined as an origin story within the world of work, as reported by Variety. Therefore, it is to be expected that much of the plot will focus on Kent as a reporter for the Daily Planet, with Lois Lane as his faithful squire.
When is Superman: Legacy released?
On July 11, 2025, it will be when Gunn will have to demonstrate on the big screen if he has done the right thing in betting on the iconic Deceite hero to start the DCU. The production will hit theaters a few months after the premiere of Joker: Folie à Deuxthe sequel to the Joker of todd phillips scheduled for October 4, 2024 and not part of Gunn’s shared universe.
