Open Road Films has acquired the worldwide rights to the film. Along with Grohl and his bandmates Taylor Hawkins, Nate Mendel, Pat Smear, Chris Shiflett and Rami Jaffee, who play themselves, the cast includes Whitney Cummings, Leslie Grossman, Will Forte, Jenna Ortega and Jeff Garlin. Image is directed by BJ McDonnell and the international release date will be set soon by Open Road CEO Tom Ortenberg and Foo Fighters.

Based on a Grohl story, with a screenplay by Jeff Buhler and Rebecca Hughes, the film is directed by BJ McDonnell. He directed Hatchet III and Slayer: The Repentless Killogy. The film mixes fear with humor and the obvious antics that the band has shown in their music videos throughout their career.

“After decades of ridiculous music videos and numerous music documentaries under our collective belts, the time has finally come to take it to the next level … a full-length horror comedy film,” said Grohl.

“Like most of Foo’s things, ‘Studio 666’ started with an unlikely idea that grew into something bigger than we ever imagined possible. Filmed in the same house where we recorded our latest album ‘Medicine at Midnight’, I told you that place was haunted! – we wanted to bring back the classic magic that all of our favorite rock and roll movies had, but with a twist: hilarious Gore. And now, with the help of Tom Ortenberg and the team at Open Road Films, we can finally pull this surprise out after keeping it as our best-kept secret for two years. Get ready to laugh, scream, and shake your head with your popcorn. ‘Studio 666’ will screw you, “states the statement by the band.
