On Wednesday, Victoria of Sweden shone at a concert with her absence. But today there are no excuses: the crown princess is 46 – and the whole country is celebrating.

Today, July 14th, all of Sweden is celebrating: The heir to the throne, Crown Princess Victoria, is celebrating her birthday. The associated holiday was introduced on her second birthday and has since been considered one of the highlights of the royal year. Traditionally, the whole family celebrates at Solliden Castle, their summer residence on the island of Öland.
Celebrations are already on the program days beforehand, including the “Solliden Sessions”. The start of this concert series takes place every year directly in front of the palace and always enjoys a royal presence. So this year everything was prepared, the right chairs were provided and kept free, a total of ten.
But the reserved seats remained empty. The press spokeswoman for the court could not help either, and she also had no information about the whereabouts of the royal family.

Today the family is taking it easy; while the masses gather in front of the gates of the castle, you spend the morning with your closest family. The family does not appear before the people until the afternoon, when King Carl Gustaf officially congratulates his daughter. Then they accept gifts and congratulations until around 4:30 p.m. when the traditional procession through Borgholm begins.

The day is rounded off by the Victoria concert in the ruins of Borgholm Castle. Donations are collected for the “Kronprinsessan Victorias Fond”, which has been supporting Swedish children with disabilities since 1997. For the first time since the outbreak of the corona pandemic, the celebrations can be held to their full extent: the Swedes are happy to be able to experience their crown princess up close again.
