Opening
For starters, the inauguration promises to be emotional, with the documentary “Three adrift … of the creative act”, by Pino Solanas, presented by his widow, the actress Ángela Correa, and his friend, the painter Luis Felipe Noé. Whose son, Gaspar Noé, would also be at the Festival, presenting “Vortex”, the film he made with veteran Darío Argento as the main character. Other promises of emotion are anticipated with the tributes to the career of Pepe Soriano, Annamaría Muchnik and the master of photography Félix “Chango” Monti, and the functions in memory of María Luisa Bemberg (his friend and disciple Alejandro Maci presents a documentary about ella), producer Paola Suárez, David Blaustein and Jorge Coscia.
In competition there are titles by Céline Sciamma, Jonás Trueba, Malena Solarz, Alexandre Koberidze (the Georgian “What are we going to see when we get to Paradise”?), Ana Katz, Juan Martín Hsu and other authors, most of them young. In informative sections, works by Hong Sang-soo, Nadav Lapid, Ryusuk Hamaguchi (the commented “Drive my Car”), Mia Hansen Love, Jane Campion, Paolo Sorrentino (“This is the hand of Dio”), Ayumo Watanabe (“ Fortune Favors Lady Nikuko ”), Julia Ducornau (the controversial“ Titane ”), Jeannine Meerapfel, Eduardo Pinto, Sabrina Farji, and, among others, Apichatpong Weeraseethakul and Alex de la Iglesia, with whom the typical online master class will take place.
Other keynote talks are added, retrospectives of the historic Machiko Kyo, the protagonist of great Japanese classics, also the Warner mini-retrospective Clint Eastwood, Argentine animation shorts recovered today, “Asylum”, a rarity of the remembered Fernando Fernán Gómez, whose centenary is commemorated, and several other attractions. Many can also be viewed online. Others, only in Mar del Plata, at $ 90 the entrance (there is a discount for retirees and students).
By the way, the discussion that took place months ago, when INCAA decided to eliminate the Astor award, just the centenary year of Astor Piazzolla from Mar del Plata, seems settled. There will be no major tributes, as promised, but at least a ledger will be presented: “A retrospective of the future. Life and work of Astor Piazzolla ”, by Marcelo Gobello, co-published between the Festival and the Piazzolla Foundation.
