Fashion for Little Women: Does It Really Exist?

Fashion for Little Women: Does It Really Exist?

If every woman conformed to the norm, there would be no problems buying clothes. However, this is not the case, our author knows that very well: With a height of 1.57 meters, she has rummaged through countless mountains of clothing in recent years – in the hope of finding something suitable.

I may be a walking cliché when it comes to shopping, but it’s true: I love it. I like to try on new things, get inspiration from fashion trends, browse second-hand shops or just go shopping with my best friend. Without a goal. Because we enjoy it and we are happy together when we were able to find one or the other sweetheart (even if that is not possible at the moment). No matter if new or used. However, what I hate and have made me despair so often are the dress sizes. How often I’ve seen something fantastically beautiful on a clothes rail and tried it on in love – just to find out that I’m too small for it, I can no longer say.

Am i too short or too wide?

What I found out for myself: I do not meet the norm, because I am 157 centimeters tall, but still – let’s call it “feminine curves” – have. Which translates to: My short legs need trousers in a small size, i.e. S, but unfortunately my hips and (sorry for the terminology) my wide ass do not fit into the corresponding models. And vice versa, the same game: if I put on an M or L, the pants fit around the top. Unfortunately, I then have to turn my legs three times until they are also in length. You can imagine what it will look like in the end. For me, however, that means: I try on about twelve thousand different models and in the end either buy a pair of jeans that “fit so-so” or nothing at all. Stupid for me, stupid for the fashion industry.

Pooh at the bottom, hui up at the top? Are you kidding me? Are you serious when you say that!

As if buying trousers weren’t already frustrating enough, it doesn’t look any different at the top: Here too – considering my short torso – I would actually need dress size S. But nature was kind to me and gave me a generous bosom (thanks mom). Which inevitably means that I actually need clothes size L or XL so that my stem has enough space in a piece of clothing. Even if the certainly played into my hands at one point or another, because I could just put on things that were apparently too big. So I’ve stood in front of the mirror at least as often, shaking my head, stunned at how horrible that much too large top looked on me. Like carrying a sack of grain. So here, too, I had to accept various defeats and return the beloved item of clothing with a crying eye.

A path of suffering: between XS and XL

As much as I enjoy following new fashion collections, I quickly had to accept that as a small woman it is very difficult for me to keep up with the trend. Quite simply because most of the clothes don’t fit me. Instead, I’ve found another way to quench my thirst for fashion: I dig through the remaining stock. In fact, over time I have noticed that at the end of a season there are always items of clothing that are not up to standard – just like me. This means that the parts are not seated as they should be. An XS that is more like an L or an XL that is more like an S is a horror for many normal-sized women. But for me they are perfect! I have already been able to get hold of so many great clothes this way, which at first seemed too small or too big, but I still took them to the locker room, if I was lucky. Lo and behold: they fit! And the best part is that most of the parts were usually reduced because nobody wanted them. Point for me. Even if I now almost only own items of clothing that range between XS and XL.

There is hope: cheers for stretch

I want to kiss the feet of those who came up with the idea of using stretch. Just to explain, in case you don’t know what the term is: It is a synthetic fabric that is very elastic. If it is used in jeans, for example, the material gives way when you wear it. Say, I can suddenly again in my size that sit on the legs as well as on the waist, stomach and buttocks. How great is that? Of course, I am aware that stretch is inferior to cotton or real denim, but seriously: Before I look like I’m going shopping in the children’s department or wearing pants that are so tight that my stomach swells over them like a leaping yeast dough, take it I definitely accept that. The same also applies to outerwear: Here, too, the fashion industry has recognized that stretch in T-shirts and pullovers can make sense. So thank you very much, you made a little woman very happy with it!

Is there really a fashion for little women?

When the first online shops advertised their “Petite” collections, I almost fell off my chair. Should someone really have recognized the problem and designed their own clothing line especially for little women? I couldn’t believe my luck. After taking a closer look at the garments, I quickly realized that ““really only stands for” small “. Overall, the fashion is kept shorter by using less fabric – and yet again, things are only aimed at female figures who meet the norm. Which should mean: Small women are automatically slim, have a narrow waist and a small bust. So again I’m out of the question. Unless the material contains stretch. But if I’m honest, that doesn’t bother me anymore. Of course it’s a shame about one or the other piece of clothing, on the other hand my own shopping tactics made me a real bargain hunter, and I can live with that.
