British pop star Elton John testified in court in London on Monday as a defense witness in the criminal trial against US Hollywood star Kevin Spacey. The 63-year-old multiple Oscar winner has been charged with allegations of sexual assault against several men.
The British news agency PA reported that the 76-year-old singer-songwriter, who recently ended his farewell tour, was connected via video transmission from Monaco. His husband David Furnish had previously testified. Among other things, it was about a charity event at Elton John’s Windsor estate in the early 2000s, at which Spacey was present. One of the alleged victims accuses Spacey of groping him on the way there.
It was initially unclear what Spacey and his defense attorneys hoped to gain from the questioning of Elton John. The singer (“Rocket Man”, “Candle In The Wind”) confirmed Spacey was at the event. He can remember it because Spacey showed up in a tuxedo, he said. The actor also spent the night at his home, he said.
