The singer of the band Die Prinzen, Sebastian Krumbiegel, has rejected the Lionheart Peace Prize from the organization Human Projects. He said on Twitter on Tuesday: “After much deliberation, I have decided not to accept the #lionheart #peace prize 2023 because I disagree with the opinion of some of those involved in the #Ukraine war and its causes.”

When he took a closer look at the other participants in the award ceremony, he began to have doubts, Krumbiegel told the German Press Agency. “I hesitated for so long because I’m actually convinced that we have to talk to each other when we have different opinions.” Especially in times of war, however, one must position oneself clearly and leave no doubt as to which side of the barricade one is on.

Krumbiegel should be honored because he has made outstanding contributions to peace and reconciliation, the organization from Leonberg in Baden-Württemberg (Böblingen district) explained at the beginning of March this year. The award ceremony was planned for November 19 in Leipzig. In addition to Krumbiegel, the journalist Gabriele Krone-Schmalz, who was born in Lam in the Bavarian Forest, is also to be awarded the prize. The singer presumably alludes to Krone-Schmalz. The former Moscow correspondent for ARD has already been criticized for her statements on the war in the past.
