Sebastian Krumbiegel: Die-Prinz-Sänger rejects Peace Prize

Sebastian Krumbiegel rejects the 2023 Lionheart Peace Prize. The singer of the band Die Prinzen explained this on Twitter.

Sebastian Krumbiegel (57) will not accept the 2023 Lionheart Peace Prize. The singer of the band Die Prinzen explained this on Tuesday on Twitter. “After much deliberation, I have decided not to accept the Lionheart Peace Prize 2023 because I disagree with the opinions of some of those involved in the Ukraine war and its causes”, .

The Lionheart Peace Prize is awarded by the non-governmental organization Human Projects from Leonberg near Stuttgart. Previous winners include the Dalai Lama (88), Fridays for Future and Mikhail Gorbachev (1931-2022). Human Projects announced at the beginning of March that Krumbiegel was to receive this year’s prize “for his outstanding commitment to our democratic community and against all authoritarian tendencies in our country, in Europe and worldwide”. The award ceremony was planned for November 19 of this year in Leipzig.

Was award winner Gabriele Krone-Schmalz the deciding factor?

In addition to the prince singer, the journalist Gabriele Krone-Schmalz (73) should also be awarded the Lionheart Peace Prize 2023. Although Krumbiegel leaves open in his post whose attitude to the Ukraine war he is bothered by, the former Moscow correspondent for ARD Krone-Schmalz already described the annexation of Crimea by Russia in 2015.
