Despite the success of Barbie: Netflix says no to “He-Man and the masters of the universe”

The good reviews and great box office expectations with which it is about to be released Barbiethey put the toy company mattel in the center of the scene, while they look for other intellectual properties of its products they can do the jump into the world of cinema and series. In this context, some bad news this Tuesday is that The live-action “He-Man and the Masters of the Universe” movie that was in production on Netflix has been cancelled.

In hollywood they estimate that they had already invested US$30 million in production, although other sources say that this figure would be double. The film already had cast Kyle Allen as a protagonist now Adam and Aaron Nee as directors.

A representative of mattel confirmed the cancellation of the project in Netflix to Variety, but the streaming platform did not respond. According to different sources to that medium, expenses in the budget to shoot the movie they made the streamer decide to take the movie down.

The film is rumored to cost $200 million to produce, something that Netflix would not have wanted to face, in the midst of sharp falls in its value in the markets. For others, this had nothing to do with it but it is part of the suspension of spending growth that the company runs.

Despite the bad news for He-Man, Mattel hopes the Barbie premiere helps. A success (by now almost assured) could tempt other producers to put what is necessary so that the project finally sees the light.
