New suspicion of tax fraud: The Colombian singer Shakira (46) apparently faces even more legal trouble. , a court near the Spanish metropolis of Barcelona initiated a new investigation on Thursday. The ex-partner of former Barca star Gerard Piqué (36) will appear in court in Spain at the end of the year for tax fraud. The singer is said to have failed to pay taxes of around 14.5 million euros that she should have paid in 2012, 2013 and 2014. Shakira has denied any wrongdoing so far. There is now a new possibility of tax evasion from 2018, which the judges and public prosecutors came across in the course of the process. The competent tax office was instructed to examine this matter more closely. The court stated that it currently has no knowledge of the amount involved in this new case.

Both cases are being heard in court in the town of Esplugues de Llobregat, a few kilometers northeast of Barcelona. Prosecutors claim that the first cases, dating back to 2012-2014, meant that the Grammy winner spent more than half of that period in Spain, despite her official place of residence being the Bahamas. Thus, she would have been obliged to pay taxes in Spain as well. Shakira said through her public relations advisors that she had “always acted in accordance with the law and on the advice of her financial advisors”. Shakira now lives in Miami, Florida.

The singer was in a relationship with the soccer professional Piqué for around eleven years. The two have two children together and only separated in June 2022. Piqué was under contract with FC Barcelona until a few months before the love ended.
