Tony Bennett is dead. The American jazz legend died in New York on Friday at the age of 96.
The music world mourns the loss of a great man. Tony Bennett (1926-2023), one of the most popular singers in the USA, is dead. Bennett died on July 21 in New York City at the age of 96.
Tony Bennett had Alzheimer’s disease
“Tony Bennett, born Anthony Dominick Benedetto on August 3, 1926 in Astoria, Queens, passed away today in his native New York City at the age of 96,” the statement said. “The beloved singer, who was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2016, is survived by his wife, Susan Benedetto, their two sons, Danny and Dae Bennett, their daughters Johanna Bennett and Antonia Bennett, and nine grandchildren.”
In early 2021, Bennett’s family made it public that the singer had Alzheimer’s disease. The disease had been diagnosed around five years previously. The disease continued to progress in the years that followed.

The jazz singer and entertainer started singing as a boy and has received numerous awards throughout his long career. He released his debut album “Because Of You” in 1952, and countless other studio albums were to follow – including two albums with Lady Gaga (37), “Cheek to Cheek” and “Love for Sale”.
Bennett first landed in the top five of the Billboard 200 – the US charts – with the record “I Left My Heart in San Francisco” (1962), which also includes the hit of the same name. He also received his first Grammys for the album. He has won the prestigious award alone 19 times over the past decades and has been nominated 41 times.
