At concerts, Robbie Williams spoke with a wink about a long-Covid illness. Now he admits: all lies.
In mid-June, Robbie Williams made headlines when he spoke about an alleged long-Covid illness at a concert in the Netherlands. “It’s Long Covid. Not my age, you assholes,” he explained on stage, according to Dutch media reports, when he got out of breath during the show.
Many fans were already wondering whether the pop star was seriously ill – even if he had already said something like that at other concerts. And indeed, Robbie Williams is now giving the all-clear. In an interview with RTL, he admitted that the announcement was a hoax. “I got used to it as a joke,” admits the singer. “If I’m suddenly tired and exhausted on stage, I don’t want the audience to think I’m an old man. So I’m pretending to have Long Covid.”
Robbie Williams suffers from body dysmorphic disorder
Robbie Williams’ humor is debatable, but apparently the 49-year-old doesn’t suffer from any serious physical problems. Williams recently revealed mental health issues and revealed that he suffers from body dysmorphic disorder. The thoughts of those affected are constantly revolving around their appearance, they feel ugly or disfigured.
“I could write a book about self loathing when it comes to my body image. The sheer self loathing, the ugliness of feeling ugly,” the singer wrote on Instagram. It’s all about his weight. Self-acceptance and self-love are difficult for him and even felt impossible.
Hits with staying power
Chart perennial: Apache 207 is the new number one – but it has tough competition
In an interview with RTL, Robbie Williams said that public appearances increased his disorder. “Before I was famous, I didn’t think about it,” he said. “But when you look at yourself every day on a ten-meter-high screen and tens of thousands of people are watching you, it’s difficult to develop a healthy self-awareness in this business.”
