Betty Taube: Her roommate allegedly wanted to kill her

Former GNTM candidate Betty Taube spent large parts of her childhood in a home because her mother was addicted to alcohol. According to her own statement, she experienced bad conditions there at times.

In 2014, Betty Taube reached the semi-finals of “Germany’s Next Top Model”. Since then she has worked as a presenter and actress. But before the 28-year-old made it onto the television screen, she had to endure a difficult childhood.

In the “Yum Yum Hustlers” podcast, Taube spoke openly about dramatic experiences in her childhood. Her mother suffered from alcohol addiction and mental illness, she abused her daughter. Taube lived in a children’s home for eight years as a teenager. There she shared a room with another girl who was mentally ill – and allegedly wanted to physically attack her. “She always wanted to kill me,” Betty Taube claimed on the podcast. “Then she had an ax under her bed. Or sometimes, when I slept, she put shards in front of my bed.”

Nobody believed Betty Taube

She was largely left alone with this problem. Nobody believed her, Taube remembers. Instead, she was accused of playing others off against each other. “But it was just the truth, I didn’t make it up,” affirms Taube. Otherwise, the living conditions in the home were bad.

Their situation improved when a nurse opened her own home and took the pigeon with her. She moved out at the age of 18 and is now committed to helping disadvantaged children and young people. Taube later processed her traumatic experiences in therapy.

Her late mother had abused her since she was a baby, Betty Taube told the hosts of “Yum Yum Hustlers”: “Whenever the youth welfare office noticed something, my mom moved with me.” At the age of “ten or eleven years” she was sent to a children’s home. The 28-year-old says of her mother: “Deep down, she knew that she had a lot of problems and was doing a lot wrong. But because of the illness and because of the addiction, she couldn’t do better at those moments.”
