O agreed a further 300 places for people with disabilities

This was announced by LH Thomas Stelzer (VP) and Sociallandesrtin Birgit Gerstorfer (SP) on Tuesday. The plan is to spend 70 million euros on this, 12.8 million of which will go to the construction of buildings and the rest to operations.

100 places are to be built every year. A broad mix is planned, ranging from integrative living quarters to children’s and youth quarters to facilities for people with autism, addiction or psychiatric illnesses. Fully or partially assisted living is just as possible as accompanied or alternative forms of living. The individual quarters are to contain up to 20 places each, and large-scale buildings have been said goodbye. The choice of locations is based on the length of the waiting list in the regions; another location criterion is the proximity to existing workshops.

In the legislative period that is coming to an end, 419 new places were already fixed and largely implemented, and another 100 were agreed at the end of the previous year by the end of 2022. There are currently around 4,500 places in the entire state. Around 1,200 people are on the waiting lists.

FP club boss Herwig Mahr emphasized that it is not just about expanding the number of seats, but that sufficiently qualified staff is also necessary. He demanded from Gerstorfer “a tailor-made personnel concept” so that the situation does not arise where the positions cannot be filled due to a lack of personnel.
