European Championship final: Zara and Mike Tindall between rioting England fans

Zara Tindall, granddaughter of Queen Elizabeth II, and her husband Mike watched the European Championship final at Wembley Stadium. Before kick-off, the couple witnessed a bloody argument between English fans.

Around 60,000 people watched the dramatic European Championship final between Italy and England in London’s Wembley Stadium on Sunday evening. Prince William, Duchess Kate and their son George were guests in the royal box. But celebrities such as actor Tom Cruise, model Kate Moss or ex-kicker David Beckham were allowed to sit there.

Two members of the royal family, however, opted for ordinary seats in the stands: Zara and Mike Tindall. The 40-year-old is the daughter of Princess Anne and therefore the Queen’s granddaughter. Tindall does not have a title of nobility and leads a largely normal life with her husband, ex-rugby player Mike Tindall. It is therefore obvious that they did not watch the game in the VIP box, but in the midst of dozens of fans. Nevertheless, the mother of three will remember the evening with mixed feelings.

Flogging fans alongside Zara and Mike Tindall

As the British newspaper reports, there was a fight between two men before the kick-off, and one of them had his nose broken. “The mood was tense because it was quite crowded. It was absolute chaos,” the “Sun” quoted an anonymous source as saying. Mike Tindall intervened and separated the two fighters before the stadium security was on the spot. Some blood splatters landed on Zara Tindall’s seat, which the 40-year-old wiped away with a handkerchief.

Fans without tickets tried to storm the stadium

Even before the game started, there were unsightly scenes at Wembley when several football fans tried to get into the stadium without tickets. The supporters broke barriers, stormed stairs and engaged in chases with the security guards. Even after the game there were numerous riots and fights. Police said 86 people had been arrested in London for a variety of crimes, including 53 in Wembley.

For Zara and Mike Tindall, the evening seems to have gone well after the initial tumult. The 42-year-old shared photos from the stadium and wrote: “I’m very proud of the English team. It wasn’t England night tonight, but this squad of players has taken a big step forward. I think we will for many years to come play long tournaments! Well done guys! “
