According to a survey in European companies, IT security and digital communication are rated as the most relevant future technologies.

This is the conclusion reached by the YouGov survey institute, which carried out a survey on behalf of the Handelsblatt Research Institute and the remote maintenance specialist Teamviewer. According to a statement on Tuesday, around 70 percent of those surveyed said IT security was more or more important, and around 60 percent were digital communication. The responses from employees and employers were similar. A total of almost 9,000 people in ten European countries were interviewed.

In contrast, both the topic of “Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning” and “Augmented, Virtual and Mixed Reality” were rated as relevant by only a minority of the participants. While the former was still selected by a good third of the employees, the field of data glasses was only worth mentioning in the eyes of one in four.

“The survey shows that in many companies there is still no precise idea of how the world of work beyond classic office jobs can be integrated into the digital transformation,” said Georg Beyschlag from Teamviewer on the results.

A clear difference between the ideas of the European employers and employees surveyed could be seen in the assumed influence of new technologies on the world of work: While the results show that almost half of company managers assume that new technologies will take over a large part of work tasks independently in the future, they fear this only 13 percent of all employees surveyed.

According to the report, deviations were also found between the ten European countries that the survey institute looked at: the influence of future technologies on the world of work is rated most highly by employees in Poland, Italy and Spain, while in Germany and France this is often below average Case.
