In Prince Harry’s adopted home of all places, Prince William is a respectable success. He was voted the most popular public figure in the USA – far ahead of Joe Biden and Donald Trump. Harry is already toying with the idea of moving to Japan.
Now Prince Harry has already crossed continents to step out of the shadow of his big brother William and yet he cannot escape. In his adopted country, the USA, of all places, he now has to take another defeat. There, William was just voted the most popular person in public life – far ahead of Donald Trump and far ahead of US President Joe Biden. Harry wasn’t even on the list.
Gallup, one of the largest US market and opinion research institutes, asked more than 1,000 people last month about their sympathies for 15 selected global public figures. In addition to important politicians in the country, the opinions on British King Charles and heir to the throne William and on Vladimir Putin, head of state of Russia, and the Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyj were also asked.
Nobody is more popular in the US than Prince William
Prince William outperformed them all. It was rated positively by 59 percent of those surveyed. The only one who can come close to keeping up with such values is Zelenskyj (57 percent). This is followed by Jill Biden (49 percent) and King Charles (46 percent), with a considerable drop in sympathy. US President Joe Biden and ex-President Donald Trump don’t give each other anything. Less than half of those surveyed find the politicians sympathetic – both have to be satisfied with 41 percent. Far behind in last place is the Russian head of state Vladimir Putin (5 percent).
It’s a respectable achievement for William, which Harry shouldn’t like. Since the Megxit about two years ago, Harry had given everything to build a career outside of the royal family in his new home. Meghan and Harry closed lucrative deals with Netflix and Spotify, wooing Americans. But they haven’t really been able to gain a foothold so far. A survey by “YouGov” had already shown in March that the prince had lost a lot of popularity in the USA in the first quarter of the year.
Prince Harry would like to move to Japan
The fall in popularity came after the publication of his memoir “Spare,” in which he also hit out at his brother, accusing him of physically assaulting him, among other things. That doesn’t seem to have damaged Williams’ reputation at all. Harry, on the other hand, wasn’t even among the top 15 people in Gallup’s new poll.
While Prince William is being celebrated in the USA, Harry has already left the continent again. He is currently vacationing with a friend in Asia, where he seems more comfortable. He would “love to live here,” he said on Tuesday after landing in Japan – “if you want me.”
