Anna Lang and Alois Eberl in perfect balance

Actually, Anna Lang and Alois Eberl wanted to present their new project Blob Pop Scrap on Saturday evening at the end of the small, fine SeeTonWellen Festival in Altmünster. Due to health reasons, the quintet was reduced to a trio.

So the two had no choice but to combine pieces from their duo program Sinfonia de Carnaval with edited versions of numbers by the new band. Cellist, pianist Anna Lang and trombonist, accordionist Alois Eberl have been among the most promising representatives of the younger jazz generation for years. Together with drummer Judith Schwarz, they made the home game in Altmünster a triumph.
Both write clever, complex pieces, Lang also likes to write multi-movement suites, which, however, are accessible and entertaining in the best sense of the word. Even as a trio they sound perfectly attuned.

Black always forms the percussive connecting, pulsating link between the whirling solo contributions.
Lang is particularly impressive on the cello, while Eberl is undoubtedly world class on the trombone. What seems most important, however, is what they have in common, the balanced relationship between chamber music-like, almost strict composition and improvisational freedom.

Conclusion: This evening, which was as demanding as it was accessible, was a highly sympathetic home game.
