Schlager icon: Tony Marshall opens memory gallery

Tony Marshall has written hit history. His fans now have a new place of pilgrimage. In Gaggenau you can also enjoy “Tony’s Narrenbaum” in the future.

Hundreds of photos, trophies, medals, gold records and other memorabilia – pop singer Tony Marshall (83) has opened his personal gallery in Gaggenau near Rastatt. “I’ve dragged everything that is dear to me,” he said.

With the gallery in rooms that belong to the inn of his old friend Frank Füchtenschnieder, he had fulfilled a dream: “It is an homage to my colleagues, many of whom are no longer alive,” he said. “But I should also be remembered with it!”

The curiosities and souvenirs, housed in a kind of log cabin, are like a catwalk through the life of Tony Marshall. Pictures show him with hits like Karel Gott, Peter Alexander or Roberto Blanco – “one of my best friends for more than 60 years”, says the singer, who with hits like “Schöne Maid” or “Today we hit the drum” celebrated great success.

Medals from fools’ guilds or associations hang on “Tony’s Narrenbaum”. The honorary citizenship certificate of his hometown Baden-Baden has a place of honor.

After serious health problems three years ago, the 83-year-old has nothing to say about it. “I am filled with gratitude,” he said. “My illnesses are not at all, just a deterioration of the body.” He also has plans: a TV show that he doesn’t want to reveal about yet – and a new album in the fall. “I’m such a lucky guy.”
