Influencer Simon Desue has not been heard from for a long time. Now he’s back with a statement and tells of a difficult time in his life – and his radical withdrawal.
Simon Desue has built up a large community on the Internet: the man from Hamburg became known for his YouTube videos, and more than four million people follow him on the platform. Then he provided his almost two million followers on Instagram with impressions of his life in Dubai, where he emigrated a few years ago.
But suddenly it became quiet about the social media star. He hasn’t uploaded any new videos to YouTube for years, and there have also been no new updates on Instagram for weeks. Many fans were therefore worried about the influencer. In a recent statement, Desue shows that was entirely justified – he’s had a tough time going through it.
Influencer Simon Desue and model Enisa Bukvic broke engagement
It was only announced a few weeks ago that Desue and his fiancée, former GNTM model Enisa Bukvic, have split up. Both were together for seven years, for many fans they were considered the ultimate dream couple. The last post on Desue’s Instagram profile until then shows him and Bukvic happy with their engagement, the model wears a ring on her finger.
But that was apparently just a facade. Now the 31-year-old admits: “I’ve been bad for the last few years. Mentally totally exhausted.” On Instagram he reports that he recently “could no longer manage” to generate new content: “Posting even the smallest stories seemed like a huge challenge to me that seemed insurmountable. Life itself seemed like a huge struggle with me himself.”
In the series “Dubai Diaries” () Desue and Bukvic showed their luxury life in Dubai, but Desue also showed weaknesses in front of the camera, bursting into tears. This experience and a lot of encouraging feedback helped him “to accept that I had to change something”. For the first time since starting his influencer career 14 years ago, he had the feeling of being “seen as a person”.
Desue retired completely for a month
Desue took a radical step: he withdrew completely for a month. “I booked a one-way ticket, removed my SIM card and disappeared,” he explains – without revealing where. He only lets the fans know that he hasn’t been online for a month. Instead, he visited orphanages and stayed in cheap hotels to find out what actually makes him happy.
Desue is still working on the final answer, but the retreat seems to have gotten him further. Now he wants to make a “new start towards a contented and happy life”. He advises his followers to seek help when they are feeling bad – also from his own painful experience: “Don’t wait as long as I do to finally take it seriously.”
