No dancers and no fireworks: Singer Ed Sheeran thinks his show isn’t fit for the Super Bowl.
British singer Ed Sheeran (32) can only imagine performing during the legendary Super Bowl halftime show if he accompanies another star. Because he alone does not offer such a spectacular show as Rihanna (35) or Beyoncé (41).
“An American Thing”
In Andy Cohen’s (55) “Deep & Shallow” podcast, Sheeran spoke about performing during the halftime show at the Superbowl. “I think the only way I would do it is if I joined someone else.” He went on to state that he felt the show was “an American thing” and that his rather stripped-down style didn’t translate to the NFL stage. His live show is not necessarily comparable to other legendary halftime stars. “All these great performers – I’m just not that. I won’t have dancers on stage. I won’t have fireworks and stuff like that.” He just couldn’t. “I don’t think anyone would want to see me at the Super Bowl either.” After joking that he “could wear glitter for that,” he reiterated, “I think I’d do it as a guest.”
In 2016 he was under discussion
He already had one possibility: The “Perfect” singer confirmed that he had already been in conversation for the halftime show. He shared that for Super Bowl 50 in 2016 there was talk of him joining British band Coldplay to perform his song “Thinking Out Loud”. Ultimately, however, Beyoncé and Bruno Mars (37) were on stage with Coldplay.
