Hans-Hermann Weyer died in Rio de Janeiro at the age of 85. He earned his money by satisfying the vanities of the rich.
Hans-Hermann Weyer, who became known for decades for selling titles and titles of nobility, is dead. “Hans-Hermann Weyer-Graf von Yorck”, as he was officially called after an adoption in 1996, was 85 on Tuesday died at his main residence in Rio de Janeiro, his wife Christina Weyer confirmed on Friday to the German Press Agency in Munich. “He passed away peacefully in my arms after 33 years of marriage.” First, the Munich “Abendzeitung” reported.
Weyer, known as the “beautiful consul”, repeatedly came into conflict with the judiciary from the 1960s onwards because of his work as a title dealer. In 1980 he left for South America. Weyer returned to Munich for a visit for the first time in 1988 after the judiciary had stopped all investigations against him.
At the Bavarian Academy for Advertising and Marketing, he once described his marketing concept as “making a lot of money with as little effort as possible”. It was his vocation to satisfy the vanities of the rich. At the age of 18, he talked the Bolivian president into getting the first honorary consulate and sold the title to a manufacturer for $20,000. By its own account, Weyer has sold several hundred consulates over the years.
In December 1991 he married his personal doctor and ambassador’s daughter Christina Scholtyssek in Rottach-Egern, Bavaria. With the death of her husband, “the last bird of paradise flew away”. The burial should take place next week in Germany in the closest family circle.
