For 13 years she was one of the figureheads of Victoria’s Secret, but meanwhile Heidi Klum also finds the image of the brand no longer in keeping with the times. The 48-year-old believes that realignment is long overdue.
She herself walked the catwalk in tight lingerie and with huge wings for years, but now Heidi Klum also finds the image of the Victoria’s Secret brand no longer appropriate. “It is high time. As a model you go there and are happy to have a job. You do what you are told. But when I look back at it, I just think: It was about time,” said 48 -Year-old in a TV interview. Many things have to change at Victoria’s Secret, too much time has passed, Klum continues.
A few weeks ago the label announced one: away from the slim supermodels towards more diversity. The Brazilian transgender model Valentina Sampaio, the LGBT activist and soccer player Megan Rapinoe and the Indian-born actress Priyanka Chopra Jonas have been hired as new ambassadors. The focus should be on the performance of women, not their figure.
Heidi Klum worked for Victoria’s Secret for 13 years
Klum herself began working for Victoria’s Secret in 1997, two years later she was named the so-called angel and made headlines with many catwalk appearances. As she recently revealed, she was pregnant with her first daughter Leni at the fashion show in autumn 2003. In 2009, she returned to the catwalk just six weeks after giving birth to her daughter Lou. At the Victoria’s Secret Show in 2007, the German appeared together with her then husband Seal. The musician and the model wrote his song “Wedding Day”. In 2010, after 13 years as the brand’s figurehead, Heidi Klum turned her back on Victoria’s Secret.
“I had the best time of my life. I felt like I was part of a family. I was always with Tyra Banks, Gisele Bündchen, Alessandra Ambrósio and Adriana Lima – they’re still friends of mine. We’re around the world traveled and experienced so many fun things together, “about her time at Victoria’s Secret.
But now it is urgently necessary that the brand develop further and move with the times. “I’m glad they realized that there are so many different people out there who want nice things to wear,” said Klum.
