Some cool off in the rubber dinghy in the Traisen, others come in Baywatch costumes, others fill up on beers at the campsite: It’s Frequency time. St. Pölten has been in a state of emergency since Thursday. Every day up to 50,000 visitors enjoy music, relaxation and sunshine at Austria’s largest music festival. On today’s last day, bands like Kraftklub, the rapper Luciano, the singer Edwin Rosen (all three from Germany) and the Dutch DJ Armin van Buuren really get going.

“I fucking love Austria”

Thanks to a rush to the box office, Thursday was already sold out. Musically, US rapper Macklemore was particularly impressive that evening. With an “I fucking love Austria” he gave the audience roses and very quickly proved to be a talented entertainer. The headliners of the first evening were Die Ärzte. Her walk on stage, scheduled for 11 p.m., took place a little earlier, instead of the usual starter of the current tour called “Westerland”, there was the “Schundersong”. The question was not whether their fun punk would still work in front of a young audience in 2023, but rather “Is that still punk rock?” – so the song of the same name.

Last night’s concert by the Imagine Dragons was the long-awaited highlight. The Las Vegas troupe, led by singer Dan Reynolds, headlined on Friday. The mood among the emergency services and the visitors was great – there were no major operations until the afternoon, but there were many smaller ones. Yesterday morning alone, the 120 paramedics treated 641 people, mainly because of minor injuries and insect bites.
