Author of masterful novels such as ‘”Freedom”, “The Corrections”, winner of the National Book Award, and “Pureza”, the writer Jonathan Franzen, portraitist of American society and its crises, will participate for the first time in Filba Internacional, which will will be held in Buenos Aires from September 27 to October 1.

The first confirmed activity in which Franzen will participate, for which tickets are already available on the Filba website, is a class that will take place on Saturday, September 30, at 11 a.m. in the Malba Museum auditorium, in which the author will explore the challenge of going from a blank page to writing.

There, the North American writer will address the fundamental aspects to find the tone of the narrative voice; the design of the space; the importance of fictional desire and the construction of the trust pact between the writer and the reader. To observe these elements at work, the author will analyze the beginnings of his six novels, as well as the first sentences of classic novels by other writers, it was reported in a statement.

Born in Western Springs, Illinois, in 1959, Franzen emerged as a noted author in 1996 when he was selected as one of America’s Best Young Novelists by the influential Granta magazine. Although he had already written the literary works “Ciudad twenty-siete” (1988) and “Movimiento fuerte” (1992), it was in 2001 that his exceptional narrative skill reached its culminating point with the publication of “Las correcciónes” (Salamandra, 2012). .

This milestone marked a before and after in his career: the novel won the National Book Award and the prestigious James Tait Black Memorial Prize, and was positioned as a finalist for the renowned Pulitzer and PEN/Faulkner prizes. As a result, the work connected with millions of readers around the world, consolidating its literary status.

His definitive confirmation came in 2010 with the novel “Freedom” (Salamandra, 2011), which triggered enthusiastic praise from critics and international experts. Five years later, in the fall of 2015, the release of “Purity” cemented his position as one of the preeminent contemporary American writers.

In addition to his work in fiction, Franzen has given life to five non-fiction works: “How to be alone” (2002), “Temperate zone” (2006), “More outside” (Salamandra, 2012), “The Kraus Project ” (2013) and “The end of the end of the Earth” (Salamander, 2019).

The writers Alia Trabucco Zerán (Chile), Mircea Cărtărescu (Romania), Lucía Lijtmaer (Spain), Nancy Huston (France), Brenda Navarro (Mexico) and Francesca Manfredi (Italy) are other confirmed guests of the International Literature Festival of Buenos Aires (Filba) to be held at the Malba Museum and the Kirchner Cultural Center.
