Jean-Marie Pfaff moved from his hometown club SK Beveren to German record champions FC Bayern Munich in 1982. He kept goal there until 1988 and, as the successor to club legend Sepp Maier, matured into one of the best players in the position. In 1990 he finally ended his career as an active player with the Turkish club Trabzonspor.
