The new series comes to Disney + with its own tone but with all the seasonings that made the franchise famous.

Star Wars needs to look forward and Ahsoka may be the answer. The new series of the franchise premieres this Tuesday at 10 p.m. from Argentina through the platform Disney+ and in their first two episodes shows all the ingredients to please the various viewers of this universe.

the series happens at the same time as The Mandaloriana few years after the original film trilogy, and tells the story Ahsoka (Rosario Dawson), the former apprentice Jedi of Anakin Skywalker (also know as Darth Vader). After two decades working in secret, now must avoid a possible war facing the threat of an important member of the Empire. On the trip, he will also have to mend his relationship with his apprentice, the Mandalorian Sabine Wren (Natasha Liu Burdizzo), who has his own personal mission.

The first two episodes that premiere this Tuesday they do the heavy lifting of introducing the characters, their place in the world, their story arcs, and their motivations. This causes the pace to seem slow but it is in order to minimize getting lost with the number of new characters and plots. This combo episodes is a great introductory hit: when they finish the public is everything on an equal footingwith everything anyone needs to know to watch the rest of the series.

Doing this exercise of starting slow and matching the audience is necessary for the particularity of Ahsoka’s character and her series. The Jedi is a character created by George Lucas in 2008. to star in the film and animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Since then, The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fetthis own novel, and the animated series Tales of The Jedi and Star Wars Rebels. The latter also introduced Sabine Wren for the first time and several other characters and storylines that will take on new relevance in Ahsoka.

Ahsoka’s cast of characters is completed by a gallery of heroes and villains: General Hera Syndulla (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), heroine of the Rebellion; the thousand-year-old lightsaber-builder droid, Huyang (David Tennant); former Jedi turned villains, Baylon Skoll (the late Ray Stevenson) and his apprentice Shin Hati (Ivanna Sakhno) and the magistrate Morgan Elsbeth (Diana Lee Inosanto).

This variety of characters accompanies a plot with a different tone from the one we had been seeing in the Star Wars series. From the beginning we have a mystery thriller that will develop in a much more serialized. We barely attended the bases and the first steps in a journey that could go very far.

The mix of this mystery with great action sequences (both ships and lightsabers), endearing characters and mythology (humans, droids and aliens) result in something that hasn’t felt so strong in Star Wars for a long time: the return of the space opera that marked the original saga so much.

It is not surprising this recovery of something so iconic for the franchise when the person behind the cameras is Dave Filoni. Lucasfilm’s historic executive producer was George Lucas’s disciple for almost 10 years and he is the one who holds the torch of the visions that the creator of Star Wars had for the franchise. In his first live-action work completely produced and written by him, one can feel that the teachings of Lucas are still more alive than ever.

in ahsokafans and casuals of Star Wars will find a series with its own tone but with all the seasonings that made those iconic films famous. Although the beginning may seem slow and confusing, the first two episodes are all you need to immerse yourself in what could be the next big event in a galaxy far, far away.
