Third anniversary of Chadwick Boseman’s death: Lupita Nyong’o commemorates her “Black Panther”

It’s been three years since aspiring Hollywood actor and Marvel star Chadwick Boseman lost his battle with colon cancer. In honor of the “Black Panther” actor, who died on August 28, 2020 at the age of just 43, co-star Lupita released Nyong’o (40) and all his fans.

Captioning a black-and-white photo that Nyong’o says she took herself during a visit to South Korea in 2018, she wrote: “Three years ago today, I felt extraordinary pain when I received the news of Chadwick Boseman’s death. The confusion was so profound that it took months to trust the sense of joy again.”

She can now feel that same joy every time she looks at Boseman’s photo, because: “Death may be difficult to understand and even harder to accept. But the love that was generated by his life will fuel every anniversary of his absence .” Nyong’o, who portrays Nakia in the Black Panther films, concludes: “Chadwick may no longer be in our photographs, but he will always be in our hearts.”

“Black Panther” was “his greatest honor”

The sad news was shared shortly after Boseman’s death in 2020. Boseman was diagnosed with stage three colon cancer in 2016. Boseman “fought him for the past four years as he progressed to fourth stage,” the statement said. “A true warrior, Chadwick stood his ground and gave you many of the films you love so much.” The productions of the past few years were therefore “filmed during and between countless operations and chemotherapy”.

It was the greatest “honor of his life” that he was allowed to slip into the role of King T’Challa aka “Black Panther”. “He died at his home surrounded by his wife and family.”
