The companies now use the same metric to obtain a number of views: a data of great interest to the screenwriters and actors unions.
This Tuesday it was revealed that Ahsokathe new series of Star Warsreached 14 million views throughout the world, during its premiere on the platform streaming Disney+. This data hides another no less: Disney unified its concept of views with Netflix.
The content you want to access is exclusive to subscribers.
“A view is defined as a full playback divided by the available duration”, indicated the platform in the official statement regarding the views of Ahsoka. This indicates, for example, that in a series of one hour, 10 hours viewed means 10 views.

It is the same method that Netflix applies since the end of June this year. For some analysts, this may indicate a good wink for the Writers and actors strike in Hollywood.
Disney’s rating could be a nod to the Hollywood strike

The unification of concepts about what a view is, for both Disney and Netflix, could signal a positive resolution for the striking writers and actors. It is that one of the claims of these unions is that the producers pay residuals according to the success of a series or film on their platforms. But, so far, the streamers refuse to provide this data.
According to the specialized journalist Kasey Moore, this parameter could indicate that all companies will unify their criteria and thus to approach positions with the unions. “A unified metric allows comparisons between series and films on different platforms. The question now becomes: What is the definition of success on this metric?”posted on his Twitter account.
Until the last meeting the openness to give data of these reproductions continued to be a conflict. The AMPTP offered that six members of the writers union could study some limited data of streaming viewers over the next three years and with that negotiate the next contract renewal. If accepted, the WGA will not be able to give this information to any scriptwriter let alone trade residuals based on data about your work.
